Afa the Wild Samoan mourns the death of longtime friend
Today I received a phone call that blew me away. My long time dear friend, the first lady of wrestling, Mrs. Georgiann Makropoulos passed away. I was hearing the news yet I couldn't believe it.

The call came from the hospital by way of her husband George and photographer Eric. They wanted me to know before it hit the message boards and I am so thankful for that.

Georgiann and I IMed each other almost everyday. She would come to me when she needed to find someone and I would go to her when I need a contact. We had a thirty year friendship and I will truly miss my friend. We had so many fun times at the AG Hall in Allentown, PA back in the late 1970's and early 1980's when I was wrestling for the late Vince McMahon Sr. Our friendship started then and we stayed close for all these years.

When Georgiann asked me to write a column for the Chatterbox I couldn't say no. It was my honor and pleasure to help her in this way. I will never forget the many times that she helped me out with kind words when over the past few years I have lost so many family and friends and Georgiann always knew what to say to cheer me up. Now I have to sit here and write about her and its with a heavy heart that I do.

I will never forget our friendship and Georgiann passing my contact information to Darren Aronofsky for the movie The Wrestler, where I trained Mickey Rourke for his role. Georgiann always had my back and I will miss her so much.

I am comforted to know that she is among so many greats in Heaven and I know that she is with our Lord for she is a great lady. I can remember so clearly Georgiann sitting in a folding chair outside AG Hall with a smile and kind word for all of us who were away from our families while on the road. I know she is sitting up there in Heaven and surrounded by so many wrestlers who I am sure are welcoming her the way she always welcomed us at the arena.

Be strong George and I am here for you if you need anything. I love you my friend.

The Way I See It- February 2010
The Way I see It.
By Afa "The Wild Samoan"

Hello Chatterboxers,

I would like to start my column by expressing my sympathy and condolences to the people of Haiti and their loved ones around the world. I know first hand what it feels like to sit back and pray and hope that your family members are alive after a tsunami or earthquake hits an Island. I sincerely hope that those affected will find peace in our Lord.

I am saddened to look back on my past columns and realize just how many times I have had to say goodbye to a family member, friend and neighbor. I believe that life is just too short to have ill fillings toward one another. Don't expect that any of us will be here tomorrow and don't put off forgiving or asking for forgiveness from one another.

Giving back is something that no one can take from you and its a feeling that makes one feel blessed to be alive. This past month my wife Lynn, daughter Tovale, and I visited a group of troubled boys at a camp called Green Isle. I was so happy to take the time to visit these kids and give some hope to their future.

Green Isle is a ministry outreach to what many would term "at risk" boys. Usos Foundation and Green Isle believe that at-risk teens require special attention.

Robin Tempesta, Development and Public Relations Administrator, invited The Hall Of Famer to speak and motivate the kids. All of the Green Isle children were ecstatic and very excited to have Afa there, and asked many questions after he spoke. Afa began with talking about his early years, when he first moved to the United States from Samoa, and how despite many challenges and some hardships along the way, he emerged and focused his energy into something positive, becoming a professional wrestler, and eventually a Hall of Famer. He told the children that they, too, have what it takes to make it far in life, with some hard work, focus, and dedication.
Also in attendance was Father Charles Brown, who believes strongly in what Usos Foundation and Green Isle are doing to help the youths.

Quote from Afa-

"What Green Isle is doing is so similar to what we're doing. When I walked through that door, I saw a couple of these kids that we had met at a Kiwanis breakfast few weeks ago, as I was standing there, my heart was touched when I saw all the people there surrounding Robin and Father Brown, all volunteering to help these kids any way they can. My whole thing is helping kids, so this is really close to my heart."

At the conclusion of Afa's speech he invited the boys to visit his Wild Samoan wrestling school in Minneola, FL and to attend a WXW wrestling event.

In closing,
If everyone treats each other how we want to be treated, I believe that this world would be a better place.

Happy Valentine's Day to you all.

God Bless,

Afa "The Wild Samoan"

WXW Mourns the Loss of Eki Fatu ("Umaga") - WXW Live Events Postponed for Remainder of 2009

MINNEOLA, FL -- WWE Hall of Famer Afa The Wild Samoan and his family are mourning the loss of their nephew, Eki Fatu, also known as former WWE Superstar Umaga. As a result of family arrangements that must be made, WXW will postpone the remaining two live events on their calendar for 2009.

The event scheduled for Leesburg December 12th, 2009 is postponed and will be rescheduled to January 16th, 2010. The event scheduled for Minneola December 19th, 2009 is postponed and will be rescheduled to January 9th, 2010. We thank our fans for their support in this difficult time, and we hope to see you again after the new year.

Statement from Afa The Wild Samoan Regarding Eki Fatu

On behalf of my family, the Anoa'i and Fatu family, we are devastated and shocked by the loss of our Eki. Our son, nephew, brother, cousin, husband, father. Our hearts are broken, and words can't express what each of us are feeling. It is so comforting to know how loved Eki is by his family, peers, friends, and most of all his fans. When I received that a.m. phone call that my nephew was in the hospital, I dug deep and prayed and cried and begged for a miracle. When we lost Eki, I knew it was God's will, and that he is with my sister, his mother, who passed just a year ago.

We are making our plans now for our farewell to Eki, but I wanted to take this time to thank everyone for all of the thousands of posts, emails, letters, and cards. Although I have not been able to bring myself to answer them personally, your kindness does not go unnoticed. I want to especially thank our WWE family and Stephanie McMahon for everything, and her phone call was very comforting to me in my time of sorrow.

God bless each and every one of you, and I've said it a hundred times, the best people in the world are our wrestling people. You'll never find a more dedicated group of people.

Be safe and be healthy, and love one another.

God bless,

Afa the Wild Samoan
